Aida | Newnan, GA Newborn Photographer + BTS

It appears that my newborns show up in waves- I'll have all boys and then comes the girls. Oh, I'm not complaining... I'm loving every minute of it!

On this session with little Miss Aida I was able to capture an image I've been seeking for quite some time now- the "head propped on the hands" pose. I finally got it, woo hoo! Let me just tell you, it wouldn't have been possible without Lauren Thrower. Lauren is a friend of mine as well as an aspiring photographer. She decided to tag along to see how I do things. Little did she know I'd put her to work ;) Lauren, thank you so much for coming- you have no idea how much your assistance was appreciated! (Lauren also took some BTS photos of me in action. She's doubly awesome!)

Little Aida was quite the baby model. When we arrived she was sound asleep. 2 hours later, still sound asleep. Was it my lucky day or what?! Because Aida was such a sound sleeper I was able to get that pose that I lusted over for so long. SCORE.

Josh and Neely- thank you for allowing me to come to your home and capture such sweet pictures of your little girl. She is a precious bundle of joy. Congrats!

World, meet Aida...

Behind the Scenes:

The following photos are just another snippet of how I set up and work through a session. As you can see in the photo below, I've set up in the most lit room in the house- lots of windows. I always use my beanbag and heater to make sure the baby is comfy. The chairs serve as a backdrop holder. In this picture I am positioning Aida's head .

Once I have the baby in position I quickly start snapping away. You never know how long they'll stay put. This was my first newborn session with my new camera- I was so excited to use it! (and yes, I'm still in love with it)

As you can see, I have Aida very close to the window. For newborn sessions I use my 50 mm 1.4. Because it's a fixed lens (it won't zoom in or out) I manually position myself for the shot/angle that I want.

Moving the baby to change the back drop often wakes them. In this photo I am trying to sooth Aida because I had done just that. You can see that I have the space heater close to keep her warm and I'm embracing her in a way so she feels comforted. I also say "shhhh" while I'm trying to get them back to sleep. I've heard that that sound resembles what they hear when they are in the womb- it really works. Heck, I squawk like a duck with the toddlers- "shhhing" is no biggy ;) Sometimes it takes a while to get them back to sleep- patience pays off, especially with the newborns.

Finally got her back to sleep. Once they are snoozing I position them how I want and start snapping. Taa Daa!

I just love reading your blog! So glad we got to experience this with Camden. Also, we are using white noise with Camden from an app we downloaded. It blocks out all the background noise and resembles the Shhhh sound...Not sure if it would work or not while you are taking pictures! Just thought I would share :)

I used the white noise app yesterday at my shoot, Shauna! It does work very well!

For safety, you might want an adult a littel closer to baby in case she wiggles. Great tips though!
